Scottish Councils to Share Town Centre Fund

The distribution of a £50m Scottish government fund to improve struggling town centres has been revealed. The largest beneficiary will be Fife Council, which is receiving £4.3m. Aberdeenshire has been allocated £3.3m, with £3m going to Glasgow and £2.6m to Edinburgh. The smallest allocation - £660,000 - has been awarded to Inverclyde.

Planning Department Say Massive Housing Development At Greenock Hospital Site Should Go Ahead

Planning officials are recommending that permission being given for almost 200 houses at the site of the former Ravenscraig Hospital in Greenock. Councillors are due to have the final say on the major development at a meeting of Inverclyde Planning Board this week.

International Charity Set To Open Its First Free Scottish Book Shop In Greenock

Global Education Trust (GET) has already set up 17 shops in England but the new one in Nicolson Street will be the first north of the border. The chscottish-book-shop-in-greenock/arity opens the shops to promote education and literacy.

Travel Plan Approved For The New Greenock Health Centre

The plan for the former Wellington Academy site will create 222 parking spaces, while there is a push to encourage people to walk, cycle or get the train or bus to the new centre.

One of the oldest family-run firms in Greenock has closed down after nearly 150 years in existence. Businessman Bill Knox has pulled the plug on plumbing business McPhersons by announcing his retirement.

Plans Revealed For A New Housing Development In Port Glasgow

Miller Homes Ltd wants to build properties on land it already owns in the town's Arran Avenue. They have lodged an application in principle for the site and have also arranged a public exhibition so that people can find out more.

The Lawn Tennis Association has now confirmed that that Inverclyde Leisure's bid for a £1.3million, state-of-the-art, tennis facility at Rankin Park in Greenock has been approved and has invited Inverclyde Leisure to submit a Stage 2 bid.
