Riverside Inverclyde Chair Recognised On Successful Night For Tenants At Bee’s Knees Awards 2019

Riverside Inverclyde’s (Ri) Chair, Dr Gerry McCarthy was awarded The President’s Award at the Bee's Knees Awards as four Ri tenants picked up awards.
Ferguson Marine Engineering, The Start-Up Drinks Lab, Balmore Group (Scotland) and Leapmoor LLP were all winners at Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce's annual business awards, which took place on Friday 7 June 2018 at The Chartroom at Kip Marina in Inverkip and were hosted by Mock the Week comedian, Milton Jones.
The Chamber awarded Dr McCarthy the highest accolade in recognition of his career at Diodes Incorporated in Greenock, where in his role as Managing Director he helped to secure its recent acquisition from Texas Instruments, having worked at the plant for over 20 years. There was also recognition of his roles in supporting local charities, including Reach for Autism and his role as Chair at regeneration body Ri, which he has held since 2014.

Leapmoor LLP were the winners in the 'Inspiring Professional of the Year' category after being nominated alongside Quarriers and Mind Mosaic. The business, which is celebrating a second win after picking up the ‘Most Inspiring Sole Trader’ award in 2018, moved into The Business Centre at Gourock Municipal Buildings in July 2017.
Balmore Group Scotland successfully retained its ‘Best Use of Innovation or Digital Technology' award after winning the award in 2018. Nominated alongside RIG Arts and Ferguson Marine, Balmore was selected by category sponsors Waterfront Cinema as the outstanding business. Established in 1984, Balmore relocated to Inverclyde in August 2017 and is based at Ri’s Kelburn Business Park in Port Glasgow.

There was a new category introduced this year, which was ‘Best Food and Drink Business’, sponsored by Ri. Greenock restaurant Tonino’s Pizzeria were the winners, pipping Ri tenants The New Chocolate Company and The Start-Up Drinks Lab to the award.
Other Ri tenants were also celebrating nominations on a fantastic night showcasing the best of business in the area, with 15 of the 31 nominees working alongside Ri. There were further nominations for Ferguson Marine (Scarlow House Business Centre) in the ‘Best Use of Innovation or Digital Technology’ and ‘Inverclyde Business of the Year’ categories.
Ocean Youth Trust (Victoria House Business Centre) was nominated in the ‘Proud to be in Inverclyde’ category with IBM (Ben Lomond View) nominated in the ‘Excellence in Skills and Learning’ category. New-start business Golden Oak Restoration (Lynedoch Industrial Estate) was nominated in ‘Most Inspiring Sole Trader’ category with estate neighbours Green Oak Funeral Services nominated for ‘Inverclyde Business of the Year’.

Mind Mosaic (Ladyburn Business Centre), nominated in the ‘Inspiring Professional of the Year’ award as well as the ‘Outstanding Customer Service’ award, was also the chosen charity of the night picking up a cheque for £1,875.
Holiday Inn Express in Greenock was celebrating being named Inverclyde Business of the Year, with Colin Moore, the hotels General Manager, dedicating the award to his local staff that joined him on stage to collect the prize.
As well as enjoying the accolades of success, category winners were awarded a crystal trophy and framed certificate. For their promotional purposes, media sponsor Gryffe Studios provides them with a DVD showcasing their business, which was screened for the first time at the gala awards dinner, the major highlight in Inverclyde Chamber’s calendar of events.
