Golden Oak Restoration, a business start-up which specialises in creating household furniture from used whisky barrels, has chosen Lynedoch Industrial Estate in Greenock as the location for its workshop.

The business is the latest tenant to sign up with regeneration company Riverside Inverclyde (Ri), taking 1,600 square foot with Ri enjoying a successful 2018 for new tenancies.

Golden Oak - with its mantra ‘to create treasured possessions from Scotland’s proud industrial past’ - has been operational since moving into its new premises in September 2018 and employs three specialist woodcrafters.

The furniture specialist is able to source a customer’s favourite dram from barrel cooperages across Scotland, before crafting them into bespoke creations which can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Owner Rory MacDonald said:

“Having the opportunity to start my own business delivering items that I am passionate about is fantastic.

"The premises are precisely what I was looking for to support the business needs and we’d like to thank Riverside Inverclyde for all of their support.”

Since starting the business Rory has already enjoyed success, with over 10 sales to date as well as a healthy order list.  The business has also been asked by Country Living to supply a bespoke barrel chair for the centre piece for their annual Christmas Fair at the SEC in Glasgow which ran from 15-18 November 2018.

Rory, who hails from Cove and lives in Gourock, continued:

“We’ve been inundated with interest from all over the UK and our aim is to get the business to the level where we are exporting to the USA and Europe.

"The ability to provide bespoke furniture which lasts for a lifetime is something people want to cherish.”

Lynedoch is Riverside Inverclyde’s largest industrial estate with a wide-range of businesses across the 32 units.  The estate provides a range of units from 1,500 to 15,000 square feet to support established businesses and those on a growth trajectory.

Andrew Bowman, Head of Business Investment at Ri said:

“Riverside Inverclyde is delighted to welcome Golden Oak Restoration to Lynedoch – this exciting new business shows the extraordinary skills and craftsmanship available from within Inverclyde with some beautiful pieces to be enjoyed by all.

“Having seen first-hand the amount of effort and time that goes into each piece each customer can be assured of an exceptional piece of furniture.

"The unit is a great match for Golden Oak Restoration’s needs and we wish Rory and his team every success.”

Golden Oak Restoration joins Ethos, Inverstore, Wet Wall Works, Kerrson Engineering, Trade Right International, Outdoor Spares, Stepwell, Window Care, Inverclean, Millar Catering, Inverclyde Voluntary Group, Pampered Pets and Online Furnace Services at the Lynedoch estate which provides 67,500 square feet in total.

With the increased market demand for industrial space in Inverclyde, Ri will be promoting the two vacant units at 1,600 square feet.
