Gourock’s Municipal Buildings Open for Business!

With refurbishment works now complete at Gourock Municipal Buildings, Riverside Inverclyde is delighted to welcome Weir & McClafferty Dental Care as its anchor tenants in this Grade C listed building. The building, an integral part of Gourock’s burgh heritage, has been transformed by local company Union Projects into a multi-occupancy facility as part of the ongoing regeneration of Gourock town centre.

Riverside Inverclyde’s concept for the refurbished Gourock Municipal Buildings is very similar to the hugely successful Scarlow House Business Centre which opened in Port Glasgow in January 2015 : securing an anchor tenant, and supporting small or start-up companies in variable sized rooms as professional working environment space for businesses to set up and expand. Space has also been allocated in the refurbishment for a Gourock Heritage Centre.

Riverside Inverclyde Chair, Gerry McCarthy, said : “the past two years have been a very exciting time for Gourock Town Centre, with the national award winning redevelopment of the Pierhead area, and now the refurbishment of a landmark building which was lying vacant. The town centre is being revitalised. Weir & McClafferty Dental Care has taken possession of the ground floor where it will be the sole tenant. The family practice, which has been established for 25 years, is expanding in its size, in its offering and in its employees from its current premises on Albert Road. The central location and the quality refurbishment was of prime importance when considering the practice’s expansion plans.

Josephine Weir said : “Our aim is to provide our patients with top quality dental care in a modern state-of-the-art dental facility. Our personal financial investment will bring modern dental technology to Gourock.”

Union Projects enjoyed the challenges the comprehensive refurbishment of a prominently located building brought them and are delighted to have played a role in the regeneration of Gourock’s town centre. The company’s Commercial Director, Francis Blyth, said: “The award of Gourock Municipal Buildings was a great achievement for the business. The project has consisted of multiple trades working on every external and internal element of this Grade C Listed Building. This has posed numerous challenges throughout, although via the whole team’s combined efforts and communication, we are proud to have been able to deliver an impressive project within a tight programme and budget. Riverside Inverclyde’s refurbishment project received support funding of half the costs from Inverclyde Council, which led to the productive restoration of this key building in Gourock’s town centre, as part of a multi faceted approach for stimulating sustainable growth in the town centre.

Regeneration Convener Councillor Michael McCormick said: “The building has been a focal point of the town for many years and I am delighted a local company that has served the local community for many years is taking up residence. The building is set for a new lease of life with a viable and commercially beneficial future while retaining its links and availability for local residents.”

To maintain the momentum of Gourock town centre’s ongoing regeneration, Riverside Inverclyde has set up the Gourock Town Centre Regeneration Forum to oversee the development of further regeneration proposals which would complement the recent significant investment in Gourock town centre. The Forum will also focus on sourcing external funding to enable priority projects to be implemented.
